Myelin
Repair Foundation Selects Scientific Software
ECM to Accelerate Multiple Sclerosis Collaboration
Multi-Site
Consortium Speeds Discovery of Multiple Sclerosis Treatment
Pleasanton,
California (December 6, 2004) —
Scientific Software, Inc., a world leader in the development,
sale and support of enterprise content management (ECM) solutions,
announced today the Myelin Repair Foundation (MRF), a consortium of
research scientists dedicated to discovering and developing
effective treatments for Multiple Sclerosis (MS), has chosen the
Scientific Software Enterprise Content Manager (ECM) platform for
collaboration and secure document sharing among research scientists
among five major universities. The foundation’s research team
includes principal investigators from Stanford University, Montreal
Neurological Institute at McGill University, Case Western Reserve
University, Northwestern University, and the University of Chicago.
Like many geographically dispersed organizations, they are
challenged with efficiently organizing, sharing and distributing
information on the latest discoveries and effectively collaborating
to leverage their collective expertise.
Most of this research information resides in the form of
electronic analytical laboratory data, biological images, and
reports. As such, a secure, centralized repository was needed to
enable the collection, management, distribution, archiving, and
retention of the information. The Scientific Software Enterprise
Content Manager (ECM) platform will provide this capability,
along with features such as access control, versioning,
check-in/ check-out, audit trail, records retention, and
archiving to hierarchical storage management (HSM) devices. The
Scientific Software ECM system is designed to handle the type of
information generated in over 80,000 research laboratories
around the world.
“The Myelin Repair Foundation is taking an innovative
approach to research where new information and discoveries among
researchers are shared in real-time” said Russell Bromley,
chief operating officer for the Myelin Repair Foundation. “To
accomplish this we needed a secure, yet easy-to-use solution to
promote online collaboration while protecting electronic
intellectual property. Scientific
Software Enterprise Content Manager (ECM) provides our
researchers with a proven, easy-to-use, web-based solution for
total information and records management to help us accelerate
collaborative efforts among our geographically-dispersed
research labs.”
“The Myelin Repair Foundation is a fast-paced,
knowledge-intensive environment with a critical need to
consolidate information locked away in various geographic silos,
making it a perfect customer for our enterprise content
management (ECM) solutions,” said Dr. Soheil Saadat, president
and CEO of Scientific Software, Inc. “We’re very excited
about helping the foundation with its content and collaboration
needs, and look forward to a long and lasting relationship.”
About
the Myelin Repair Foundation
The Myelin Repair Foundation (MRF), a Northern
California-based, non-profit research foundation, is the only
research effort exclusively committed to discovering new
treatments for MS and to rapidly moving these discoveries into
development of drug therapies that improve the quality of life
for people with MS. The MRF model of scientific collaboration
provides a supportive environment in which leading research
scientists at multiple universities and experienced business
executives can work together to execute a five-year research
plan - with milestones, parallel experiments, collaboration,
and, most important, a constant focus on developing effective
treatments for multiple sclerosis. MRF expects to raise $25
million in the next two years to support the research activities
of five of the world's leading neuroscientists in myelin repair.
